{GIVEAWAY} Scour Off

As you prep for Thanksgiving, you see the dreaded "clean oven" on your to-do list. Before you get out your bio-hazard suit we suggest you try a well-to-do favorite: Shaklee’s all natural Scour Off Heavy Duty Paste.

Scour Off is a scouring cleanser that sets new standards of cleaning and sets the bar high. It’s a paste great for tough jobs: it cleans  burnt-on food in your oven in no time and stuck-on messes on the grill, too.

Not only does our beloved paste have the muscle to get the job done, its natural mineral abrasives and cleaning agents (cherry pits, people!) are gentle on the planet. Scour Off contains no chlorine, bleach or dye, and is biodegradable and nontoxic. Did we mention it also has a yummy cherry scent? So delicious our friends frequently ask permission to taste it (but are not advised)!

Scour Off is not just for the oven. Take it around the house for many additional household uses. Some of our favorites include: ceramic cooktops, sinks, tile grout, and shower and tub soap scum. To use: simply apply with a wet sponge or soft cloth and plenty of water. Wipe or rinse off. On the grill a heavier brush can be used on the grates.

So there you have it. A scouring cleanser with natural ingredients that can remove the toughest stuck-on messes without the harsh chemicals. Now your oven can be clean and green this Thanksgiving! Imagine that.

We're spreading the green, clean love and offering one lucky Well-to-Doer a Scour Off of his or her own. Simply leave a comment here on the blog for entry!

{GIVEAWAY} Kiss and Tell

via
Our love for beauty products started at a young age. Sweet Bonne Bell was so colorful and tasty. Sadly, it was a downward spiral from there. Seems a majority of lip balm manufacturers not only skimp on the all-so-important moisturizing but they use ingredients such as silicone oil and salicylic acid that actively dry out our precious puckers, creating more need for their product.

Most commercial brands, including "medicated" lip balms, have a potentially toxic petroleum base used to hold moisture against the skin. Add aluminum salts, preservatives, artificial flavors to the equation and the answer is an ugly combo of chemicals.

But it doesn't stop there. As far as chapped lips go, additives like menthol, camphor, and phenol are used as counter-irritants to give lips a cool, soothing sensation as lip balm is applied. According to Paula Begoun, "The Cosmetics Cop" and author of The Beauty Bible, these ingredients are used "to make the consumer think something is happening." But she says, "If you want a cooling sensation, drink some cold water."

For our lips we choose Shaklee's Enfuselle Lip Treatment SPF 15. Simply put: it soothes and smoothes! "Drenched with vitamins C and E, calendula extract, and moisturizing plant oil," this nourishing lip treatment helps smooth the appearance of fine vertical lines while softening, firming, and protecting against the elements. Wear alone or under lipstick. Slather on as much as you want, as frequently as you want!

Think your kisser is the fairest in the land? Then tell us about your best kiss — person, location, date... whatever details you want. Comment below, on Facebook or on Twitter, and we'll pick TWO lucky winners to receive Enfuselle Lip Treatments!

Go on. Kiss and tell!

GODDESS FROM GREENE

The word goddess gets thrown around way too lightly these days. But before it got linked up with self-proclaimed inner and domestic goddess bloggers, the word meant something. Tempest-stirring power. Ship-launching beauty. The ability to wear a white toga fashionably post-Labor Day.

One person who deserves the title? Our dear friend Erika from - we kid you not - Greene, Maine. Not only are we in awe of her skin (it sparkles from across the room), but her beauty regime is heroic. To kick-off well-to-do's three week series on green beauty we rounded up Erika’s top tips on how to save your skin and the environment, no matter what type of earth-loving goddess you are.

GET EDUCATED. Start reading the ingredients labels of your beauty products - shampoos, conditioners, body washes, deodorants and skin care products. If they’re packed with these chemicals - toss ‘em!

THE GRASS ISN'T ALWAYS GREENER. Buy green beauty alternatives, but be careful. Sometimes products labeled “green” and “organic” are still packed with synthetics. Julie Gabriel as lots of specific recommendations in “The Green Beauty Guide”.

MAKE YOUR OWN. Polish your body to a healthly glow like Erika’s and moisturize it to softness at the same time with an easy DIY sugar body scrub. You will need plain white or brown sugar and organic extra virgin olive oil. In a bowl or a jar with a lid (that way you can save the rest for next time), pour the sugar and add the olive oil. The mixture should have a mushy consistency and not be too oily or grainy. Rinse thoroughly in the shower. The sugar will remove dead skin cells and the olive oil will nourish your skin keeping it moisturized. Erika, who has very sensitive skin, swears by the scrub as an exfoliant as well as a shaving cream (note: don't shave with the scrub; shave after you rinse it off).

KEEP IT SIMPLE. When looking for green beauty products, consider simple solutions like using coconut oil on your skin instead of mineral-oil based body creams. The health benefits of coconut oil include (but apparently not limited to!) hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, dental care and bone strength. Yea, A LOT.

Coconut oil as hair care: Coconut oil can be natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing a shiny complexion. Erika applies coconut oil to a pony tail about 20 minutes before showering and then rinses it out.

Coconut oil as skin care: Coconut oil is an excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin - a safe solution for preventing dryness. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema.

USE BAR SOAP. By dissolving entirely, bar soaps like Shaklee's Meadow Blend Soap-Free Cleansing Bar cause less junk at the landfill.

SAY SO LONG TO SYNTHETIC PERFUMES. Scented products often have the word fragrance on the ingredients list. But a fragrance can actually be dozens of synthetic ingredients, possibly including petrochemicals. FYI: companies aren't required to disclose specifics. Spelled-out ingredient lists, such as those on Aubrey Organics Eau De Parfums and Ajne Natural Fragrances ensure you know what's going on your skin.

WEAR SUNSCREEN. Always. Lots of it. Slather it on. And choose oxybenzone- and Vitamin A-free from thinkbaby or Shaklee.

USE MINERAL MAKEUP. We love a good tease... more on this next Monday!

With Erika’s tips, you’ll be raising environmental consciousness without ever lowering your standards. How green goddess of you.

DOGGONE CLEAN

See Spot run. See Spot run fast. See Spot run fast through a mud puddle. See Spot run fast through a mud puddle and splash you, your toddler, your baby and your Bob Duallie double stroller. Nice.

No worries for this Shaklee family, though. Nature Bright Laundry Booster & Stain Remover has Spot covered. Says Shaklee, “Some really nice things can cause some really nasty stains. Some really nice things can also get them out. Instead of chlorine, natural enzymes and active oxygen in Nature Bright re-brighten laundry, de-stain upholstery and way more. Nice.”

Nature Bright is...

Powerful Laundry Booster: Natural enzymes and active oxygen keep whites white and colors bright while removing stains.

-Excellent laundry pretreatment on organic stains like wine, blood, grass, and much more.

-Powerful chlorine-free, laundry booster – effective alternative to chlorine bleach.

-Color safe and can be used with any washable fabric.

Powerful Stain Remover: Removes stubborn stains on surfaces like carpet, upholstery, kitchen, and bath surfaces and effectively cleans outdoor patio furniture.

-Tackles the toughest organic stains and will effectively remove wine, grape juice, blood, perspiration, grass, grease, food stains, coffee, mold and mildew stains, and much more.

-Comes in a handy re-sealable pouch with measuring scoop.

Cost Effective: Nature Bright's price tag is $9.30 MN/$10.95 SRP for a 32 oz package which makes up to 4 gallons as a stain remover and does up to 64 medium loads as a laundry brightener.

-As a laundry stain remover, a 32 oz package makes up to 4 gallons with a cost per gallon of $2.29. To do a similar job, it would cost you $17.02 per gallon for Shout Triple Acting Stain Remover and $33.96 per gallon for BioKleen Stain Eliminator.

-As a chlorine-free laundry brightener, Nature Bright does 64 medium loads with a cost per load of 14.3 cents. A 77.4 oz box of Clorox Bleach for Colors does 27 medium loads and costs 29.6 cents per load. Seventh Generation Chlorine-Free Beach does 21 medium loads and costs 26.1 cents per load.

-Add to that a 100% guarantee or your money back and you've got yourself a clean deal.

See Spot buy Nature Bright. See Spot Get Clean. Nice.

xx S+S

A note about the Shaklee difference: Shaklee Get Clean products are not only economical, but WISE! Cost comparisons alone do not take into consideration the fact that Get Clean cleaners are nontoxic and do not pollute, leave no harmful residues, are biodegradable, and they WORK - or your money back!

IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT

Say hello to the new and improved Shaklee Dream Plan. Much like Monday's post, Shaklee took something good and made it better. Way better. Trips, money and cars (hybrid, of course) are not the only benefits Shaklee offers. The Shaklee opportunity is about living life on your own terms, on your own schedule, with the people you choose.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE?

Just three clear steps to earning the rewards of a great living:

1) Use Shaklee products to make yourself healthier. Easy enough.

2) Share the products with others. You'll want to.

3) Mentor others to do what you're doing. Paying it forward pays you back.

LET SHAKLEE PAY FOR YOUR CAR!

When you achieve the highest rank in Shaklee, you'll find yourself behind the wheel of a new luxury car, courtesy of Shaklee. But you don't have to wait that long before you qualify for a car payment. Really! You could be earning your own car payment in months-not years.

HOW MUCH MONEY ARE WE TALKING?

In August Shaklee celebrated $5 billion paid in commissions at the annual conference. Instead of a fixed salary in a career that builds someone else's income dream, a Shaklee business is your own and has no income limit. What you put in is what you get out.

Here are some average "salaries" for a few ranks*:

Director - $10,629/yr

Senior Director - $14,045 (plus $225/mo toward hybrid car payment)

Senior Coordinator - $39,019 ($325/mo for car)

Key Coordinator - $102,121 ($450/mo for car)

Master Coordinator - $218,026 ($500/mo for car)

Presidential Master Coordinator - $598,037 (luxury hybrid vehicle courtesy of Shaklee)

LIVE THE DREAM. SHARE THE DREAM.

SO FRESH. SO CLEAN.

We all want to look our best, and put our best fashion foot forward. But how do we keep our wardrobe in tip-top shape without the harsh chemicals? Shaklee’s Get Clean Laundry, of course! Take it from us: your clothes will thank you.

Shaklee’s Fresh Laundry concentrate contains no chlorine or phosphates, is hypo-allergenic and biodegradable, which translates to a gentle, all natural cleaning power. Delicates to dungarees are fair game with this concentrate. No need to use a separate pre-spotter on tough stains either, simply pre-treat with the concentrate before tossing in the wash (or let sit for those extra stubborn stains). Independent laboratory tests have shown that Get Clean Fresh Laundry concentrate removes soil 34% better as a pre-wash stain remover than Shout® Advanced Action Gel, rivals Spray ‘n Wash® with Resolve Power on spot removal, and is 30% better at removing dirt and stains than All® Small and Mighty® Free Clear HE in high-efficiency washers.

Anyone who’s struggled with sudsy buildup in their high-efficiency, energy- and water-saving washer will love the fresh thinking found in the new Fresh Laundry Concentrate HE Compatible formula. Its suds-controlling formula is kind on your washer. Its triple-concentrated formula saves money, water, energy, and space in your laundry room / closet / space.

Want even more bang for your laundry buck? Check out the Get Clean Laundry Mini Kit (pictured below) specially designed to banish stains, keep whites their brightest, and prevent dyes in colored clothing from transferring from one garment to another during washing.

Oh, and did we mention that Get Clean Fresh Laundry is so super-concentrated that one small bottle cleans 32 medium loads, the same number as a 100 ounce bottle of conventional liquid laundry detergent?

Now that's what Shaklee calls a breath of fresh laundry. Us, too!

DHA: A SUPER HERO'S SECRET WEAPON

"SUPER TEDDY"
Meet Super Teddy! Faster than a speeding bullet. Leaps tall stairs in a single step. Resistant to injury and immune to physical damage. Generates vocal sounds of a higher amplitude than a normal human. Takes on abilities of certain wild animals. Crawls on vertical and horizontal surfaces. Brings inanimate objects to life. Draws power from small but abundant sources of energy...

Okay, so maybe we're a little biased in thinking Super Teddy has some super seriously good genes. We confess that he gets his DHA superpower, though, from a daily Shakleekids Mighty Smart chew.

"Super-tasty and super-safe, Shakleekids Mighty Smart is scientifically formulated with a power-packed blast of 100% natural, ultra-pure DHA. Each great-tasting chew provides 100 mg of this essential brain nutrient. DHA has been shown to support a mighty memory, incredible concentration, and fierce mind skills. In addition, it promotes healthy eyes and rad vision for your multitalented, multitasking superhero."

Since it’s from Shaklee, you know it’s safe and all-natural. Mighty Smart contains no artificial colors, sweeteners, or preservatives, is gluten-free, and has a yummy orange flavor any superhero would love!

DID YOU KNOW?

• Proper brain development starts early
- By age 5, a child’s brain is 3.5 x larger than it was at birth.
- DHA supports brain health and normal cognitive function, including memory, focus, concentration, and attention.
- At birth, DHA makes up about 97% of all the omega-3 fatty acids in the brain and 93% in the retina. To help maintain these levels, kids should consume DHA on a regular basis.

• Fish is the main source of DHA, but…
- Eating large amounts of certain types of fish may be dangerous. According to the FDA and the EPA, some fish contain mercury and other contaminants that may affect brain and neurological development in young children.
- Supplementation with an ultra-pure source is a safe way to increase DHA intake.
- Foods that are rich in DHA include sardines, tuna, and organ meats such as liver — all of which are foods that kids generally don’t like.

So here’s to the natural way to keep your super hero super-safe… and super smart. Just ask Super Teddy!
